With the impending arrival on Erid comes a whole host of worries. Grace is scared of what awaits him and how his dynamic with Rocky will change, especially because the various symptoms of malnutrition make him a nightmare to be around. Rocky assures him that he’s not going anywhere but Grace isn’t sure he can believe that.
OR:
Grace’s illness makes him stupid. Rocky isn’t sure how he can reassure him, but he tries. And now that they’re on Erid and actually have the resources to treat him, hopefully he’ll get better soon.

Summary
After over a decade of warring with the ever-expanding Prospitian Empire, the weakened and exhausted Kingdom of Derse is forced to bend the knee and surrender to being annexed by the Empire. Now subsumed in its nearly pan-continental rule, the Dersite royal family is forced to leave the only home they've ever known and stay in the Imperial palace in Prospit's capital to begin negotiations for their peace treaty, until terms are settled and the Empire is assured that Derse won’t rebel.
To the Derse Crown Prince’s surprise, “negotiations” also included an arrangement for him to marry the Duke of the English Isles. Not even Prospit’s own heir to the throne, Crown Princess Jane Crocker—a duke, who really gets under Dirk’s skin in ways he can’t quite explain.
One final spit in the face from the Empress, but Derse’s prince can’t dare to reject it for fear of the consequences for his family and his nation, whose fate are now carried on the terms and stipulations of this marriage agreement.
But Dirk was a soldier as well as a prince. He was smart. He would figure out a way through this. He just had to figure out the deal with Duke Jacob Harley first.
