He caught the tell-tale glow of vibrant red emanating from either side of the runner, blurry in the haze of the unrelenting rain but still unmistakable as they bobbed in time with the person’s arms. Robert’s eyes narrowed as the information slowly rolled around in his brain.
Definitely an augment.
“Fucking asshole!” Chad seethed, the sound of his voice drifting closer to where Robert was still sprawled out on the ground. “You okay Bob Bob? I heard something pop when you ate shit. You didn’t, like, break anything right? Your normie spine didn’t snap yeah?”
While walking back from a night out with the Z-Team Robert and Chad have a literal run-in with an unregistered Red Ring augment. Unbeknownst to them this brief, and frankly unspectacular, encounter will throw them into a storm where Robert will be entirely dependant on Chad to help him navigate the challenges that actually come along with controlling the fire and flames while his skin does not burn. And hopefully doing so with as little property damage as possible.

Chase was pissed. He was furious, terrified, heartbroken.

Chase adored being a hero. He loved helping people, loved using his powers to speed throughout the world in a second, loved showing off and although he wouldn't admit it—to a certain degree—he loved the fame.
But mainly, he loved that he never had to deliver bad news.

Grandpa Bobbie and his daemon Alba, who died before Robert was born, settled as a bobcat. Not the biggest daemon, but big enough one’d have to start considering the size of spaces when it came to their daemon. Dad and his daemon Solas settled as doberman. To a young kid, this was setting a pattern of bigger and bigger forms as the Robertson legacy continued.
Robert and Valda rarely ever went small. They did cheetah, tiger, lion, crocodile. All sorts of breeds of huge dogs. Wolves. Predators and hunters, animals befitting a hero who would protect people and hunt down villains.

One choice can change the strings of fate permanently. Resulting in a world where Robert is a villain known as 'Jaegar' and Flambae is an ex-hero known as 'the Phoenix'. It was a two day event, Saturday and Sunday, and the SDN was willing to pay, round trip, for someone from the Phoenix Program to attend — with a chaperone of course.
When Robert had volunteered to do so with a member of the Z-Team, he hadn’t really thought the entire process through. Robert knew it could happen. The damage to his back from the fall was immense, and there was a chance, but he didn't think it would happen. He didn't think his legs would give up on him. He didn't think there might be a way to fix it. He didn't think the team would care. Seems he got a lot wrong. Might as well take the time to find out who he is without the pressure of Mecha Man on his shoulders and the inability to use his legs. Good thing Flambae is willing to carry him until the uphill battle is won.
