When Potter finally appears, Draco can feel the buzz of his magic in the air, can almost hear it like an angry swarm of bees. Even without the oppressive feeling of his power, Draco would be able to tell he’s in a foul mood with the way his eyes seem a shade darker and his lips turn down as if weighed down by his problems. He shouldn't be able to notice, from the other side of the road, especially in the night’s low light. But he does. And he looks haunted.
Draco likes him better this way, because Draco is fucked in the head.

Summary
It's the last year of the second wizarding war. Ginny is the only Weasley returning to Hogwarts, to fight her quiet battle against Death Eater teachers and a headmaster in the service of Voldemort.
Draco is in hiding with the Order of the Phoenix, housed and protected by people he has considered beneath him his whole life.
And Harry is roaming the English country side in an old, ratty tent, trying not to think about the people he left behind, or his own growing certainty that he is not going to make it through this war alive.

Summary
In the wake of Cedric's death, the wizarding world has lost most of its appeal as Harry's place of happiness. His friends are keeping secrets from him and everyone else thinks he's crazy. He has a hearing at the Ministry and is feeling all the powerlessness of facing a corrupt government. Even Hogwarts is being warped by Umbridge and the Ministry, and on top of everything there is Malfoy too, with all his childish spite and apparent inability to leave Harry alone.

What Draco wants is to feel that burning, jealous hatred that had fuelled him through most of his childhood and young adulthood. He wants to peacefully hate Potter and not have Potter ruin everything by being careful and sweet with him. He wants to feel something more than the scorching, merciless shame and embarrassment that fill him every time he looks at Potter and remembers what he symbolises; peace, and love, and courage and freedom.
All the things Draco has never felt.
