Summary
Set during the late years of the First Wizarding War, the story opens with Lily Evans as a brilliant, ambitious Head Girl in her seventh year at Hogwarts. Deeply disillusioned with the casual cruelty, immaturity, and lingering blood prejudice of her peers — particularly James Potter and his friends, and James’s final bullying of Severus Snape — Lily makes a defining choice: she ends her relationship with James and resolves to pursue an independent future.
Determined not to become dependent on a pureblood husband or trapped by wizarding society’s expectations of muggleborn women, Lily focuses on her NEWTs and her long-term goal of meaningful change within the magical world. Coming from a working-class muggle family in Cokeworth, she knows she must rely solely on her own talent.
At Professor Filius Flitwick’s recommendation, Lily is offered a rare apprenticeship under Eulalie Hicks, a renowned American Charms Mistress currently residing in France.
