This is a fair warning to anyone who wants to read. I haven’t actually watched the first two seasons in years and never put myself through three and four. “I’m not going to break a fucking nail.” Steve hissed and elbowed him, like he hadn’t been thinking the same thing as he struggled to wedge one of his shiny red nails into his wallet’s tight leather pockets. When Carol warned him that some things would be harder, she hadn’t mentioned the bizarre anxiety that came with feeling like your hands were made of cracked dinner plates.
Idly, Steve wondered if newly de-clawed cats felt like this. Except he was a re-clawed cat, and the vet had promised him it was only temporary.
He was already losing his mind.

Steve has magic, he just doesn't know it. He doesn't believe Dustin no matter how many times he insists that Steve's food is magic, because that is preposterous. Slowly others start to recognize that Steve has magic too, and then Billy comes along with accusations of a love potion when Neil gets a hold of some cookies Steve made and starts acting nice.

Steve expects a lighter to be tossed at him or even just lit and held up in front of his face, instead a flame sparks to life at the end of the cigarette held between his lips. Steve sucks in with a startled delighted laugh. He has seen Billy do this from afar, use his magic to light a cigarette but he has never seen him do it up close.
“That’s so cool.” Steve says before he can stop himself, face heating, why is it that he can never just be cool around Billy? “You ever do that to pick up chicks?” Steve asks, trying to save face and feeling like even more of a dumbass.
“Trying to pick you up.” Billy mumbles under his breath before making a show of coughing.
“What?” Steve asks the words too low for him to make out, he tries to sink into his jacket, shoulders around his ears as Billy starts laughing, sure he is being laughed at.

But everything will be fine, right? All he has to do is pretend everything is normal.
