Summary
Tim is five years old when he drowns in his parents' pool. He dies quietly, waiting for parents who love him, but will never be there, to realise that something is wrong. They never show up, and he sinks into oblivion.
When he wakes up and claws his way out of the water, the sun has set, and the lights of his house are on. He is cold and wet and his lungs burn.
But most of all, Tim is alone.

everything, EVERYTHING, that i want in a tim-centric batfamily fic, is this. i think it can be tough to write good tim angst where the rest of the gotham clan are involved, because it can either feel like tim is being completely irrational in his whumpiness because clearly he has a family who cares about him, or it goes the other way where the batfam gets thrown under the bus and are terrible to tim and we have to kind of hate them as a result. it's also challenging to have tim's emotional journey happen with the batfam, because none of them HAVE a history of expressing themselves and healthily dealing with trauma - so it can often come across as frustrating for any of them to try and tell tim he has to feel things and process, because it seems incredibly patronizing (especially when tim is the one who had to hold everything together when everybody spiraled after jason's death). this story balances all of that perfectly, and the payoff where communication finally starts happening is absolutely beautiful.

Plottiest, most in-character, and all-around BEST Coldflash fic I've ever read. It usually takes an awful lot to get me to start - and stay with - any fic over 100k; I really only gave in with this because I'd read all the other completed high-kudos-count coldflash fics. As it turns out, I'm grateful I read this last, because if I'd started with Seventy Three Seconds, everything I read after would have been a disappointment.
I can only think of two or three other fics that I've ever read with characterization as spot-on as this in all of fandom. Every thought, description, and line of dialogue from every character in this is PERFECT (sometimes, I think I can literally hear them speaking, it's incredible). This is everything I've ever wanted to read; thank you, RedHead!
