8x16, 17, and 18 retconned this making this now mildly canon divergent. Blink and you’ll miss it.
Buck is looking at apartments, Eddie doesn't want him to go.
He wonders if this is what Buck felt when it was him doing the leaving. Did a gaping hole open up inside him? Did he feel like the ground was shifting under his feet? Did he feel like he wanted to stop time, just for a second so he could catch his breath? Did the grief of it threaten to swallow him whole?

Eddie and Buck finally work it out. Canon divergent.
They definitely gave up too easily, but at the same time he’s not sure how it could have possibly worked with him here and Buck there. Long distance relationships generally never end well, and he would have never asked Buck to leave LA, to leave the only real family he had, to join what had turned into a bitter two year battle with his parents over Christopher.

Summary
Their eyes catch and hold and Eddie wants to look away, doesn’t want to show Buck all the pain he’s carrying, he doesn’t want to burden Buck with things he can’t fix. But when Buck looks back, it’s not in an effort to fix him, it’s just Buck seeing him, the same way he always sees Eddie, the way he always sees what Eddie needs.
Buck finds out Eddie is fighting. There's sort of a confrontation. Nurse!Buck...sort of.
Or the one where Eddie is already in the bag for Buck.

Buck waits for Eddie to tell him to leave. Eddie never will.

“Buck, you dummy, they were family homes. Meant for kids. In neighborhoods near some good schools. The high school isn’t that nearby, because Chris would kill us if we tried to make him live that close, but there’s an elementary—”
Buck shoves Eddie, hard—hard enough that his shoulder hits the steering wheel, and a honk startles them both. Eddie glares at Buck, even as Buck lays flat the driver’s seat, rolling into the back and reaching for the door. Eddie catches him before he can, hauling him into the front with two hands on Buck’s waist. Buck’s back slams into Eddie’s chest, knocking Eddie against the steering wheel again. Eddie jumps at the honk and Buck uses that moment of surprise to try to wriggle free once more.
Eddie holds firm.
“Let me go, you asshole!” Buck hisses.
Eddie scoffs. “Give me one good reason.”

Buck’s hand slides up the length of Eddie’s arm, his palm catching along the edge of Eddie’s jaw. His other hand mirrors it, framing Eddie’s face with a careful reverence, eyes flitting across Eddie’s features, his lips the focal point.
“One kiss." Buck's words are so, so soft, laced with the slightest hint of determination.
“One kiss,” Eddie echoes, eyes fixated on the dark seam of Buck’s lips, the gentle arch of his cupid’s bow. “So I know.”
“So you know.”

Buck turns him over on his back to search his face, earnest and determined and glowing like he’s in his element. Eddie’s getting drunk on seeing him in this particular element. “What can I do, baby? What do you need?”
Buck shifts his hips, grinding down slow and sensual and delicious. Reflexively, Eddie spreads his legs to accommodate him, and Buck moans as they get even closer. Close enough, even, for Eddie to feel him. and fuck, shit, that’s it, isn’t it. That’s what he needs.
“I feel,” Eddie’s cheeks burn, but the word fits as he forces it out, “empty.”
Buck groans loudly, dropping his forehead to Eddie’s shoulder. “Oh my god. Oh my god, Eddie.”
