She’s smiling at him as though expecting an outpouring of relief. Heiji’s a little sorry to disappoint her. Mostly, though, he’s kind of annoyed.
“I already reported that I won’t be taking any entrance exams,” he says briskly, and hesitates for a half-second before tacking on a quick, “ma’am.”

Usually, Fullmetal was a reckless brat who charged head first into any lead that Roy could give him.
Not this time, though.
For some reason, the kid had a haunted look in his eye this time around. More than once, Roy had caught Edward zoning out, staring off at nothing in a way that reminded Roy of his comrades on the front lines, all those years ago. The blank stares that seemed to see everything yet nothing all at once. It didn’t fit on Edward’s young face.

"I- I've only seen them from afar." The child confessed bashedly.
"Oh."
"It felt just as soft as I thought." He continued dreamily, appearing to be stifling a smile as he bowed to Dazai, who lay down, motionless. "Thank you so much, Kidnapper-san! I am so grateful."
Atsushi is reverted back to a child, Dazai suffers from parental instincts. (And sucks at it) Kunikida shows his concern through violence. (It's received, but he sucks at it too)
