I shift, not really wanting the day to end, “Want to come up?” I try. “I’ll find a horror movie that will actually make you jump.”
Maddy laughs. “You don’t need to put on scary movies to get me close to you, Rue—”
I’m lost for words. My face heats up, “That’s not—
“—I’m a cuddler as you can tell.” She finishes.
Oh. I think. So, she knows we were basically tangled into each other this morning. I chew on my bottom lip, my mind about to go into over drive.
“You’re doing that thing.” She tells me.
“Yeah sorry.” I give an awkward laugh. “You cuddle with all your friends, I’m guessing…”
Maddy phones begin to blow up, and she looks at it and roll her eyes while saying, “No. I don’t like sharing beds during sleepovers.” My eyes widen. “I have to go, unfortunately.” She leans over and gives me a hug, “Good night, Rue.”
I pull the pillow Maddy was using and fall into a dream that includes hues of purple and whispers of ocean wave promises.

Summary
This story dynamic is similar to my last story, "For Real", but it’s a different plot. I kept the parts I liked but changed the energy. Rue is a chill, detached athlete who isn't easily impressed. Maddy is focused on breaking through that wall.
During a house party, Maddy and Rue bump into each other....

Rue pins her down with her stare, her eyes holding a storm so intense Maddy hears lightning and thunder. The gentleness of her fingers on her face, the sharp contrast of it, takes Maddy's breath away.
"Sure you do," her voice shakes, too raw, too vulnerable.
Rue wets her lips with her tongue. "You have every right to be angry with me. And I know fucked up last time, not saying it. But I want you. I want you, Maddy. I want you so fucking bad."
Her words break at the end, like a thread of restraint snaps in half. Only then does Maddy see how hard Rue is breathing, how her other hand clenches tightly into a fist. Her fingers on her cheek are so light, barely touching her skin. Maddy leans into them, brushing her lips against rough knuckles, and Rue's breath shudders.
"Then prove it," Maddy says.

Or: Rue shows up at Maddy's place after the wedding. Maddy lets her in, against her better judgment, in more ways than one.
