The whole thing reeks of bad news. That compliment-thick greeting, the innocent-looking glass, the way his eyes kept looking down your dress. You just wanted to get as far away from it as possible. He clearly doesn't want that.
You don't know where your friends disappeared off to. You try looking around, but it's hard to make out anybody with all the vibrant lights cutting randomly through the dark and the press of bodies dancing together. The only well-lit place is the bar. So you beeline for it. And he follows behind.
There's a man standing there. He's tall and intimidating. Dressed to the nines, regal without being obnoxious, and in dark colors that contrast his bright hair. His jacket hangs off his shoulders, making him appear larger than he is. It's a risk, but if he can just play along for two seconds, maybe you can finally shake this guy off your tail.
