Summary
After an explosion soon after the plane crash, Laura Lee is profoundly deaf. She cannot hear the screams during the seance, she cannot hear Lottie’s preaching and her words of affirmation, she cannot hear the calls of “Fire!” from inside the cabin. Noticing this, as she notices so many other things, Misty Quigley steps in, using her babysitting course lessons for something good: Teaching Laura Lee (And refreshing her memory in) ASL. During their sessions, Laura Lee and Misty bond over their catholic background and loyalty to Lottie in the wilderness whilst Misty observes Laura Lee’s rise to leadership in the group.

It's 1996, and Laura Lee was born to fly. She grew up watching airplanes fly by, wishing she could be up there, the wind on her skin. She had dreamed of this moment; the rush of the wind through the cracks in the dirty glass was drowned out by her beating heart. The dream she kept within her bones would save them all.
In another world, Laura Lee wasn't born to fly. Somewhere else, her bones didn't scream with the need to soar.
But this was not another world, And God, did her bones scream.
In this world, Laura Lee would jump out of the plane and be enveloped in the sky before she would inevitably hit the ground. But Laura Lee, like so many of the Yellowjackets, defies the inevitable.
Laura Lee would not fall. Her vision would go white in pain as her back would split, revealing an explosion not unlike the planes. Unlike the machine, Laura Lee would explode in a mass of feathers, bones, and blood.
