The sound of the ocean nearby is what woke Percy from his sleep.
Typically, if he were to be awakened by the sound of his fathers domain, his mood would lighten; however, last time he checked, he was not outside when he fell asleep. Sure, Cabin 3 had that coastal vibe—with the fountain and the smell of saltwater infused into the air—but Percy was sure that what he was hearing was a physical ocean, and not the illusion of one.
To confirm his suspicion, he begrudgingly cracked open his eyes—taking note of how bright the area he was in was—and without a doubt, the sea stretched endlessly in front of him.
