Were worry not settling deep in his stomach, Cal might have found the memory amusing. Comforting, even. He had been here before. He had done this once. Padawans, Knights, and Masters lost their lightsabers sometimes. Others would wield two sabers, one in each hand. They would need to return to Ilum for another crystal to construct a new one. Unsual as it was, such a thing was not unheard of.
But he was different. The closed ramp to the Mantis, the only barrier between himself and what lay beyond, stood in front of him. It seemed an impossible bridge to cross. Who is to say a crystal will even choose the pathetic waste of he was now?

There. It felt almost as though he were unlocking a door. It was not tilted one way or the other, the light or the dark. It just was.
One of the corners of the holocron spun. Something within it clicked. It began to hover off his hand as each of the corners spun. They released off the holocron, floating away from it as a blinding blue light radiated from the centerpiece. A hologram fizzled to life before his eyes, depicting a cloaked Jedi, hood flipped back, hands tucked into the sleeves of his robe. Albeit years younger, life having yet to take such a toll on him, he would recognize the voice anywhere.
Cal’s stomach dropped.

“We are.” The dark-skinned woman turned to Cal, a ferocious look in her eye. Her determination spread across his chest. Determination to do what exactly, he could not discern, but Cal was not willing to take any chances.
He ignited the second blade of his saber and assumed a similar stance to the Second Sister --- one half of the blade turned down, held defensively in front of his chest. Like an animal waiting to strike.
“That’s not a Jedi!” the Latero said.
