Summary
Evan “Buck” Buckley was not an honest person as much as he would like to be or even was trying to be in his own way. His dishonesty wasn’t malicious in the slightest though. He had his reasons, of course, but his entire identity was built on a shaky Jenga tower of lies. As much as he built it up, one by one the blocks were still removed over the years making the tower less and less stable.
Buck joined the 118 fresh out of the Navy and braced himself for all the questions that were about to come his way which he did not want to answer. Then, like a gift from above, somehow and shockingly, no one had read his resume, and he found he could start all over again, be a new person, someone completely different or maybe who he was supposed to be all along.

Summary
Chris shifted uncomfortably, his gaze darting away again. “Because I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to be with Dad right now either. And I didn’t say anything before because you were with Tommy, and I didn’t want to mess things up for you.”
Buck’s chest tightened, guilt creeping in like a shadow. “Chris, you would never mess things up for me. Never. You’re family. You always have a place here. And you’ll always come first.”
Chris’s shoulders sagged with relief, but his voice was still small. “So I can live with you?”
Or
Buck, struggling with abandonment and feelings of being unworthy, is shaken when Chris calls, asking if he can live with Buck now that he’s no longer with Tommy.
Still hurt and angry with Eddie, Chris refuses to tell his dad about wanting to live with Buck, leaving Buck caught in the middle, torn between protecting Chris and his loyalty to Eddie. Yet as Buck promises to help, he feels something shift—beneath all the self-doubt and pain, a quiet hope emerges. For the first time in what feels like forever, someone chose him, and maybe, just maybe, he’s not as unworthy of love as he’s always believed.

Summary
Evan Buckley was intimately familiar with death. It hung in the air around him, lived under his skin.
It was the reason he'd been born in the first place.
Maybe it had seemed like some awful cosmic joke to his parents when they'd found out the source of his magic. It could have been anything.
It just had to be death.Eddie Diaz doesn't know how to be a werewolf.
Which is unfortunate, given he's been one all his life. He brought his son to LA to get away from it all, but he couldn't run from what he was.Or:

Summary
He knows he could have called Maddie and she would have been there, though the memory of her disappointment last time stopped him. As for everyone else—even if he weren’t prohibited from talking to them by his lawyer, Buck doubts anyone would have come. The last time they talked was when they ran into each other in the grocery store a week back, and, since Buck is not eager for a repeat of that interaction, he doesn’t even consider calling anyone in to hold his hand for what is, he tells himself, probably just another little blip on his road back to the 118.
He is able to convince himself of this up until the moment Dr. Gutierrez walks into his room and says, “Well, Evan, you just can’t seem to do anything the easy way, can you?”
Because, as it turns out, there is a circumstance under which a tiny clot that doesn’t cause you to vomit blood in front of all of your friends and family is worse than three big ones that do: that circumstance is called ‘being on blood thinners.’

Summary
During a call Buck meets a young boy, and when he once again runs into him he realizes the boy might need more help than he originally thought.
As he battles with how to help him, he also tries to come to terms with the realization that his feelings against his best friend might not be quite as platonic as he once thought.
----
“Hey, you ok kid?” He asks and offers the water with a comforting smile. The boy tenses and looks up at him under the hood with suspicious eyes and Buck realizes he is younger than he originally thought, probably around 12 years old if he would take a guess. He patiently waits and eventually the kid reaches out and carefully grabs the bottle, wriggling it in his hands but makes no effort to drink it. There's a bit of soot on his hands and his cheeks and Buck furrows his brows in concern.
