“Son, you don’t need to explain anything to us.” David was trying to cut through his returned panic, keeping his hand on Shane’s shoulder. “And no apologies. We are just so sorry this happened to you.”

Summary
It started with a stupid game Tim and Kon played. Call it a byproduct of growing up as a generation of terminally-online children. The goal of the game is to send the weirdest, creepiest, or grossest things they can find on the internet and try to get the other to nope out because of how fucked up it is. Not like, anything illegal, just like normal fucked up.
Tim gets a ping on Discord. No explanation, just an AO3 link with the title Like Birds in the Night. Curious, he clicks on it. Right off the rip, the tags are promising.

Summary
Voldemort figures out that Harry is his horcrux during the graveyard scene and lets him go. As a result, Harry gets blamed for Cedric's death and is expelled from Hogwarts. Stuck at the Dursleys and having his letters ignored, Harry has nobody to turn to when he starts getting odd dreams.
The Wizarding World doesn't realize that Voldemort is back until Dumbledore is defeated, but by then it's too late.
Or: Through a series of dreams, Voldemort convinces Harry that they are soul mates.

Shane has his cornerstones of control: Ilya, food, and hockey.
He can keep them all discrete and harmonious - a well-oiled machine.
Except Hayden really should know about Ilya, shouldn't he? And surely telling him can't blow Shane's life up too much? Ilya doesn't think so, but Ilya routinely asserts that his skates are "too American and trying to humble him", so maybe Ilya's opinions aren't always to be entirely trusted.
