Summary
There’s a magician living in an abandoned warehouse down on the Tricorner Docks.
Park Row has its fair share of strange tales and rumors floating through the cracks. The kids of the alley talk at length, telling ghost stories and cautionary tales. Passing advice on how to survive from one night to the next in the form of fun little parables that make the cold nights feel a little bit warmer, and maybe let them pretend that their lives are all a fun little game, just for a few moments.
The magician, at first, feels like a fable. Something that a kid saw and read just a little bit wrong and didn’t wait around to find out what was really going on. The kid who spotted the magician – a 9 year old red-head with green eyes and a smattering of freckles across his pale face – tells the tale like a myth.
A magician with golden hair and golden eyes, who clapped his hands together and rebuilt a car from scraps with a flash of light. Taking nothing in payment but a bottle of whiskey and a home-cooked meal.
(Or: The one where Edward Elric ends up in Gotham, decides Jason Todd is his, and makes it Bruce Wayne's problem.)

Do I just not matter to you anymore? Did I ever? I don’t speak to you for months. Months Bruce! And you still have the audacity to ask about him first thing before even asking how I’m doing when I finally want to talk to you. Do you even understand how fucked up that is? How bad that hurts?"

I think this is genuinely my all time favorite portrayal of a younger Dick Grayson and newly adopted Jason
It's just SO WELL DONE OH MY GOD.
If I go back through my book marks and ever find this deleted instead of orphaned, I think I'll actually mourn this fic.
So, for my future self, just in case, the premise is as follows: Dick Grayson had a No Good Very Bad Day, just the absolute worst, then Jason shows up at his door beat to hell. He takes care of Jason's injuries, gives him Zitka for comfort, and eventually reconnect (or at least starts to) with Bruce.

Summary
An old tradition. A horrible tradition, but traditions are traditions. No one even remembers the last time it was invoked in Gotham. Probably some time in the 1800's. No one actually did it anymore, not even the city's elite who breathed tradition like air, wore it draped over them like their silken finery.
Dick had sat numb and uncomprehending when, already reeling from Bruce's sudden and wholly unexpected death, his attorney read that line in the will with a grim voice. He couldn't move. Couldn't breathe. Blood was rushing in his ears, and he was only distantly aware as Jason started raging, swearing. Tim had grabbed his hand. Damian balled his fists and knocked an antique vase from a side table in mute fury.
Because buried in the section of the will covering death and burial wishes sat a quiet death sentence for Dick.

Bruce pulled up his tablet and began logging into the database. “You just came back from the JLA mission to Braal, no? Hal filed the report already.” Bruce tapped on the screen to open the report and scanned his eyes over it. “Looks like it went alright.”
A horrified look dawned on his friend’s face. “You don’t know.”
“Know what,” Bruce said, now starting to feel annoyed at clearly being out of the loop of whatever Clark was talking about.
“Bruce, I don’t hear his heart.”
Four months ago, Agent 37 returned from Spyral, and faced his family’s anger at the betrayal.
One month ago, John Doe was shot and killed in a mugging.
Three days ago, Superman came to offer his condolences after returning from an off-world mission.
Now, Dick Grayson is lowered into the ground once again.
OR: Dick dies alone and his family grieves.
