Summary
Here’s the thing: Phainon’s a line, P(x), hurtling towards the y-axis from negative infinity on the x-axis. Mydei, M(x), is doing the same from positive infinity. There’s a point they’re both heading towards, some kind of nebulous companionship, but in the end it doesn’t matter what’s happening there because they’re hitting an asymptotic boundary where their destinies diverge - Phainon, ascending to his position as the Deliverer; Mydei, plunging to his inevitable death.

Cycle four-million, two-hundred-fifty-thousand, seven-hundred-seventy-three. It has come to Khaslana’s attention that he is, of all possible organisms, a rat. The kind you’d see on the floors of storage sheds, eating away at the drops of grain that spilled like waterfalls from their baskets; the kind that excelled in squeezing through nooks and crannies of the house; the kind that made a nuisance out of themselves, though Phainon had always felt sorry for them when he looked into their shiny black eyes.
