"Your mother had brown eyes,” Voldemort murmurs. Harry can’t help but be struck with the cruelty of the entire situation—of the fact that Voldemort is the very person that took away any resemblance he had to his mother. When the Dark Lord visited the Potter home that day, he didn’t just take his parents’ lives. He took something else too: his brown eyes.

Summary
Harry walks a lot, that summer after the graveyard.

“How much do they cost?” The words are out of Harry’s mouth before he can stop them. It’s a bad idea and Harry knows it. He has no clue on how to take care of snakes and he’s pretty sure both of them are poisonous, but he doesn’t want them to die. If it doesn’t work out, Harry figures he can send the snakes to Hagrid or something.

Instead of killing the Basilisk, Harry befriends it. Tom Riddle shouldn't have underestimated the ability for a twelve year old to make any animal his friend.
