Penelope turns to look at her and the smile that is usually full of mischief is soft and kind. On instinct, Josie gives Penelope a genuine smile in return before looking to Raphael with a stoic face.

“What the fuck is your deal? Thought it might be fun to slum it for the night with the gutter trash who rescued you out there? You’re welcome, by the way.”
“No, I–” Caitlyn made a noise of frustration, face scrunching up, and then she was really fuckin’ close.
Vi held her breath, not wanting to break the weird fucking moment.
“You’re infuriating,” Caitlyn breathed, and Vi tried - and failed - not to shiver when warm breath ghosted over her lips.
“Yeah, well–” Vi started to snark back…and then Vi’s night was officially the weirdest she’d had in a while, because Caitlyn Kiramman, conservative politician’s daughter, was kissing her like she was fucking starving and Vi was an all-you-can-eat buffet in the desert.

Caitlyn Kiramman did everything exactly like she was supposed to. Got good grades, performed well in her extracurriculars, went to university, got a degree. Found a job she was passionate about and flew up the ranks until there was nowhere higher she wanted to go. Mated to a good strong alpha from a good strong family just like she was supposed to.
Except that now she finds herself Sheriff of Piltover, and still not having enough control over her own damn department to make the change she wants. Her personal life only helps her job slowly chip away at her sanity, and she can't help feeling utterly trapped.
Out of desperation and just a little defiance, she hires a Zaunite ex-con alpha into the Wardens. An act that quickly spirals out of control, because Vi is handsome and kind and Caitlyn maybe wants her more than she's ever wanted anything… Even if it's very much against the law for a member of the Piltovan elite to consider a relationship with a Zaunite, especially while Caitlyn already has a mate.
