It’s been months now of fighting it, fantasising about the idea of dying rather than taking the real, literal, less abstract plunge.
Now he’s not even sure when it had begun. Was it beginning of exile, or had it started before that? He thinks just maybe it was there, itching the back of his mind, in Pogtopia. Or when he was throwing himself into fight after fight on Hypixel to make a few gold for food that night. Or maybe it was always there, and he was just born doomed to die by his own hand.

The battle was over, and Thorin Oakenshield awoke, naked and shivering, in the Halls of his Ancestors.
The novelty of being dead fades quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt. Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a Dwarf of Durin's line with bright red hair.
(Follows the story of the War of the Ring).

Summary
No-one asks to be a Second-Timer. Life is hard enough once - to go through it again, bearing the memories and regrets of a lifetime, would be bad enough even if it wasn't a social stigma.
Jack doesn't know why he's suddenly waking up screaming and bearing scars he never earned. He doesn't know why he apparently died young and terrified, full of regrets. He just knows he's not interested in being sent away to programs for Second-Timers, even if he might meet other kids like himself, and he doesn't want to keep remembering the life he'd failed to live properly the first time.
He does wish he could remember who Alexander was, though, and why he'd died thinking of him.
