The first time Alhaitham coughs up a flower, he is sitting in the House of Daena watching Kaveh. Fondness curls, familiar and warm, in Alhaitham’s chest.
And it stays there.
It’s heavy, and Alhaitham muffles a cough into a closed fist. It comes away with a spit-damp petal stuck to his skin. He stares at it, taking in the lamplight as it shimmers off of deep, royal purple.
A Sumeru rose.

Summary
Haitham himself is wearing nothing but that collar, which Kaveh tugs on as if sensing his thoughts are falling away from the activity at hand. Hands on either side of Kaveh’s lean waist, he’s buried inside his lover, rutting his hips back and forth in desperation while Kaveh lays there, entirely inattentive to his needs, eyes not faltering from their place on the papers even once.
It had taken some convincing and a lengthy discussion about boundaries for Kaveh to agree to this, but gods, Haitham is happy he did.
Haitham wears a collar in bed and falls in love with Kaveh a thousand times over.

Summary
Kaveh promises himself that he will not ruin the relationship that he and Alhaitham have finally rebuilt—so he settles on keeping his hidden feelings to himself.
Not until, a sudden change disrupts their usual routine.
It was the third time that week that Alhaitham had come home with a bouquet of flowers in his hands with a small smile on his face.
Kaveh quickly finds out that this anomaly might not only cause a ripple in their relationship, but also triggers a deep-seated fear within him.
Or Alhaitham starts bringing home flowers.
And Kaveh starts to feel an intense, gnawing ache in his chest, called none other than jealousy.

Summary
The fundraiser for the people of Aaru village is going according to plan. Except a love poem meant for a mysterious muse gets released along with the formal announcement. Summary
Alarm overtook Kaveh’s expression as he looked back and forth between Alhaitham and the matra, dropping his sketchpad and leaping to his feet. “Why is there a guard here? Did you get hurt?”
“Some idiot decided poisoning me to obtain state secrets would be an optimal use of a Tuesday morning,” Alhaitham replied with a deep sigh.
Kaveh’s hands hovered uselessly in the air for a few moments as he stared at Alhaitham. “I’m sorry, what?”
Leaning back against the wall, Alhaitham let out a weary exhale. “Truth serum,” he said tiredly, raking his fingers through his hair then dropping his hand down to rub his throat. “I can’t lie.”
Kaveh’s eyes widened. “Oh my gods. Are you - are you okay?” Hurrying forward, Kaveh - with his blessedly fully covered legs - guided Alhaitham onto the divan, hands steady despite the panic in his voice.
“I don’t know. I’m just glad you’re wearing pants,” was all Alhaitham managed to answer.

Alhaitham is, by all definitions, not human. He does not require sleep, he does not require food, and he possesses no non-logical primary motivators.
He knows this. The neighbours know this. The delivery bots know this.
He wonders if his maker does.

He really is beautiful.
Here lies Kaveh’s magnum opus, on the table he was created upon. Kaveh smooths a hand down his well-defined cheekbones. Long eyelashes, bold eyebrows, and a handsome nose, he truly is a sight to behold. The corners of Kaveh’s lips quirk up. He always considered himself something of an artist.
It takes some time to finally tear his eyes away from his creation and back to his tablet, where he was working on the final touches for his personality. He would be rational in all the ways Kaveh had been scorned for lacking. He would balance him out, challenge Kaveh, bring him to heights Kaveh would have never even known existed alone.
He would be beautiful, and he would be perfect.
Kaveh constructs an android. An exploration of companionship.

“I’m not lazy. I don’t want to get my tail wet,” Alhaitham snapped. “And I’m not getting my ears wet.”Kaveh offers to help Alhaitham wash his tail. It makes things complicated.

The short of it: Kaveh caught a very rare manifestation of the Withering that was not Eleazar after clearing out a remaining pocket of said Withering by himself. Alone. In the woods. Following directions the Traveler scribbled on a tree trunk somewhere, probably. This conclusion will eventually be drawn.
The long of it: Kaveh went home coughing up flower petals in a stroke of truly poetic misfortune, and if Alhaitham's presence exacerbated his mysterious new problem terribly, well, that was just one more way in which Kaveh would have to endure excruciating pain for fear of losing a man he could not have, did not deserve to have, but was too greedy to let go of.

Light truly was such a conundrum. At first L thought he was simply a monster disguised as a man, a power hungry tyrant with a god complex. Yet after his confinement his eyes had changed, they were brighter, they were kinder. The teen had to go and ruin everything, by becoming someone he could genuinely call his friend. Kira may have left Light an empty shell, but L knew his first friend was still in there somewhere. Of course, trying to save someone who is constantly trying to kill you is as hard as it sounds.
But Light used to have so much hope in his eyes, so L is trying to do the same.
