III tumbles down the porch steps, lets Sleep curl happily around his shoulders, and pumps out calming pheromones toward the shivering man.
The man jolts back as III comes closer, and III croons at him lowly, and tells him he’s safe here.
The man watches him fearfully.
“We weren’t expecting you,” III says. “Sorry, so sorry.”

III sighs, forcing himself to sit upright in spite of the ache in his back and the dizziness that threatens to turn into nausea the longer that he goes without water. Dehydration was always a pain in the ass, but after three straight nights of partying, his body is practically begging for relief. He eyes the text once again, re-reading it over and over until the full weight of the words sink in. Every text he ever receives from Vessel feels like a tether around his chest, and he can’t decide whether to pull free or suffocate quietly in compliance with his wishes.
It reels him in closer to a self-image that he doesn’t want to recognize.
The point is, III doesn’t want to go.

Summary
III splashes his own face and neck with water, watching the sweat and paint vanish down the drain. He’s almost thankful the mirror in here is small and mostly fogged, because he’s sure he looks a mess, and he’d rather not see that. Almost, only because he feels Vessel’s eyes on him again before there’s teeth gently pressing to the side of III’s throat.
Fuck, he wishes he could watch the way Vessel’s experimentally nipping at his neck, barely enough to even be felt, a hand still tangled in III’s hair. At the same time, he can’t properly comprehend what Vessel is even doing. He’s pressed up against III’s back, mouth to his neck, one hand around III’s hip to steady himself. III wants, so badly and deeply it feels like a physical thing, but this is Vessel, and he wants to do things right.
Eloquently, he says, “The fuck are you doing?”

The Vessels are left shaken after the sudden departure of their first IV. III has taken this loss the hardest and hides himself away from his lovers. II and Vessel are left scrambling. Between preparing for their upcoming concert, wondering what went wrong, and trying to piece III back together, Sleep sends Vessel dreams of the new IV. Meanwhile, IV is simply trying to keep one foot in front of the other after his life broke apart. A chance encounter changes the course of his life and he soon finds himself free-falling in love with these three, strange men who want him to play guitar for their band. Sleep is eager to bring IV into the fold, but she isn't the only one who wants to claim him. Something dangerous is brewing under the surface and it's going to take everything the Vessels and Sleep have to keep IV safe.
