Summary
Monoco’s station was just as it had always been, Gommage or no. The painted curves of it flowed and trailed, one long brush stroke after another. The snow stayed, and so did the grandis, the gentle petals of iron, the curve of playful trains.
Only Monoco had left. Only they had changed. And then they’d returned, and for what? To scavenge the chroma of corpses long gone to rest? To scrape the paint from a hundred abandoned creations?
Verso was tired.
“Yes,” he said, “I could have saved him.”
Or: Maelle brings Gustave back, and accidentally ties his soul to Verso. This changes things.

Summary
Freshly repainted, Gustave doesn't remember anything about his prior entanglement with Verso - but he finds himself drawn to Lumière's pianist all over again.
With Verso reluctant to tell him the truth, Gustave soon finds himself falling back into the same old patterns: a secret relationship, the hint of something forbidden, and the familiar pressure of a welcome hand around his throat.

Gustave let go of a heavy sigh and nodded his head. Back in the Stone Wave Cliffs, he had come to peace that this was where his journey ended—For those who come after, right?—but it seemed like his story wasn't done just yet. Maelle had, somehow, given him another lease on life, and this time, he could live it. He could grow old. He could do things simply for the sake of doing them; every waking moment didn't have to be dedicated to trying to solve the issue with the Paintress, with preserving their civilization.

Summary
Eddie couldn’t see who he was talking to, but assumed it was Betty, perhaps even Ben Hwa, whom Eddie had seen leaving Volt’s bedroom a multitude of times. Jealousy tied like a knot in his stomach, and he felt he could puke.
He was going to puke.
Eddie dropped the glasses in his hand and gagged from behind his mask. Heat spread over his body, and he pushed through the club to the bathroom. He barely made it to the toilet and ripped the mask off his face when the vomit came out of him. Thick and heavy, a retched concoction of whiskey, blood, and flowers that choked him until they were able to be free from the confined orifice of his throat.
Eddie fell to his knees and stared at the petals and blood in the toilet bowl. This wasn’t how things were supposed to go. How could this happen to Eddie of all people? It was no secret to him who he was in love with, but everyone around him was none the wiser. He had to keep it that way. Groaning, Eddie pulled himself off and leaned against the wall. He heard Volt back on the stage outside on the main floor and huffed to himself.
