Izuku woke up and knew today wasn’t going to be a good day.
You would think that his birthday would be a happy day, one of excitement and fun and joy, but that was the very opposite of what his birthday was.
All his birthday serves as is a reminder, a reminder of his diagnosis as quirkless, a diagnosis that would ruin his life for eight out of his thirteen years.
A reminder of his mother’s tragic death, and the subsequent abuse he suffered in the foster system.
A reminder of Hitoshi’s attempt, and subsequently his own a year later.
His birthday had nothing going for it, and most of the time he wishes he could skip the day altogether.

“I didn’t have the same middle school experience as you,” Shinsou says. “I didn’t become rivals with my childhood friend.”
Shinsou doesn’t know who Kacchan really is to him. Izuku has spent so much time looking at Shinsou and relating to him, that he forgot that Shinsou wasn’t looking back at him with that same recognition.
Izuku takes a deep breath, and starts, “Kacchan and I aren’t really childhood friends. Not really.”
Or: Shinsou finds out that Bakugou used to bully Midoriya.

"Hey, I'm not that bad." Izuku protested, not even sounding like he convinced himself.
"You almost committed murder. In broad daylight. With a six year old on your back." Hitoshi said, because watching that broadcast was when he came to the unfortunate conclusion that, for better or worse, he'd never be able to get the enigma that was Midoriya Izuku out of his head.
(It ended up being for better. Mostly.)
"You fist fought a serial killer to the death." Todoroki offered, and Hitoshi almost snapped his own neck looking between the two of them.

Summary
Izuku always wanted friends, but unfortunately, he was bullied a lot in school for being quirkless, so he didn't have any. But now he was at UA with a powerful quirk, and everyone was so unbelievably kind! He made a few good friends already. But then a new kid transferred to their class, replacing Mineta, who was expelled. His name was Shinsou Hitoshi and Izuku was determined to be friends with him. But unfortunately for him, Shinsou did not share the same desire.
Hitoshi didn't want friends. He didn't need friends. He had his dad, who also happened to be his new teacher, and that was enough for him. So when the golden boy of UA tries to befriend him, he does everything in his power to make him go away. But unfortunately for him, Midoriya is annoyingly persistent, and now he's his...new brother!? This can't be happening.
