“Wait a sec,” the boy says. He’s scrawny, with a buzzcut and an oversized parka that makes his head look too small. “You’re a kid.”
Steve bristles. “I’m not a kid, I’m eight! Why are you trying to break into my house?”
“Well, I’m ten,” the boy gloats, like it’s a competition. “And I’m not trying, I succeeded.”
Steve stares at him. Then at the open window and the heap of broken Halloween decorations below it. Then back at the boy, who shrugs.
“Relax, I’ll be gone in a minute. No need to wake your folks or whack me with your weird baseball bat.”
“It’s a rolling pin,” Steve corrects.

Summary
Watching Steve sit alone that first day- even with his ex and her new squeeze crowding his table- former King of Hawkins High with his bruised up face and puppy dog eyes, and apparently, knight in shining armor tendencies, Eddie never stood a chance.
It's Jeff, in the end, that finally badgers Eddie enough to let Steve be dragged over to their table- into Hellfire, and Dungeons & Dragons, and hopefully right into Eddie's arms- after Steve intervenes to stop Jeff being harrassed in the halls.
Now Eddie just needs to figure out what he's going to do with all of it.
Aka a hellfire adopts Steve fic, because give the boy some friends (and a boyfriend).
