Anger. At the world, at herself, at the crew. Pomni felt guilty, yet like she'd done all she could, and Jax? Well, Jax was gone, now weren't they? Pomni was beginning to cope, beginning to come to terms, watching Jax enjoying herself in the aquarium. That was, of course, until she started to exhibit aggressive behaviors towards the other Abstracted, doing any and everything to get back to Pomni on the other side of the glass. Sex updates had resulted in some of the more animalistic characters exhibiting heat cycles, and in turn, mate imprinting. And, apparently, Jax had chosen Pomni to be her mate. Pomni had already failed the rabbit once, she wasn't going to allow herself to do it again.

Summary
It's been weeks since Jax abstracted. He's been confined to the big purple tent, devoid of any light, because darkness keeps him calm. The others visit when they can stand to, though it’s not often. Pomni visits every night.
She tells herself it's just to check on him, that they were friends, and friends do that sort of thing. But then she starts talking to Jax, or whatever is left of him, about everything and nothing all at once, and somewhere along the way she starts to notice things she can't explain. The way the creature goes still when she speaks. The way it tilts, almost imperceptibly, toward her voice.
He's abstracted, and this shouldn't be possible, she thinks. That is, until Pomni begins to do her research and understand what abstraction really means- what it takes from a person, and more importantly, what it leaves behind. She has a theory, and the window to act on it is closing fast.

"Did he forget to mention that CatNap is seven feet tall?
Most people would probably be intimidated by CatNap's height. Some people in the office actually are.
But to DogDay... Oh, to DogDay...
That's the goddamned spark right there.
There's something about a guy who's several heads higher than him with bedroom eyes that smolder and a voice like honey being poured over your most sultry dreams. There was something about his soft, well-kept fur, the general air of elegance and composure he holds. It's like being face-to-face with some sexy, vampiric librarian, the type of guy who reads complex books in a big chair in front of a lit fireplace with a glass of wine and a bunch of expensive cheese on a tiny table next to him.
Okay, that's really specific, but you get what DogDay means, don't you? He's classy, but laid-back. He's soft-spoken, but confident. He's witty, but not demeaning. And god help DogDay, he's got curves that have the spaniel trying his absolute hardest not to look down lest he get caught staring.
...Or maybe DogDay just has a thing for giant guys with thighs that could crush his head like a watermelon. Who knows, really."

Summary
Dogday and Catnap have been best friends for years, close enough that everyone on campus thinks they're basically attached at the hip. The only problem? They're both secretly in love with each other, and neither of them plans on admitting it anytime soon.
Until Halloween happens.
What starts as a chaotic college party with matching masquerade costumes, drunken games, and bad decisions turns into the night that changes everything. Dogday gets drunk far too easily, Catnap stays sober enough to know better, and one impulsive moment upstairs leads to feelings they can't take back.
The next morning, Dogday wakes up sore, covered in hickeys, and unable to remember who he slept with.
