He can’t think clearly, he can’t remember if Yennefer ever told him about a man with blue eyes and a lute on his hands. He feels uprooted, marooned. Utterly lost.
He wants to be left alone with his broken dreams.
“Get out” he barks, angry with himself, angry with Yennefer, angry with the world “Get the fuck out”.
The man looks at him suddenly, the pain washed away, something like panic replacing it, his smell turning sour with it. Decomposing lemons’ acid.
“No, please, no. Please don’t kick me out” he stands up, leaving the lute on the ground, his face turning pale and sickening. His body twitches anxiously. “Please. If you. If you don’t accept me then Stregobor is going to whore me out to the soldiers” his hands shake a little. “And oh ho boy, let me tell you: that is not a pleasant experience” he swallows, the sound a howl for mercy. “Please. I would do anything, anything you want. I won’t complain. I will shut up. Please, please, let me stay. Let us stay”.
And when Geralt is going to ask why the fuck he said us he hears it: a baby’s mumble.
The world goes eerie silent.

“He was motivated,” Eva murmurs distantly. She is suddenly very tired.
“Past tense already?”
Eva flinches, feeling slapped in the face. No more coffees brought to her right as she starts to lag in the afternoon, no more bags of obnoxiously-colored candies hidden away in her pocket to slip to him, lest the vultures in the engineering department claim them all. No more staring at reports while he spins his chair around and talks about nothing, his voice soothing white noise to her after three years of hearing it practically nonstop. No more beers shared after a long day’s work, a brief respite before beginning another grueling day the next morning. It is all past tense now.

“Yeah, and I'm excited to meet them too, but after that!” Is this a translation error? A cultural miscommunication? How is Rocky not getting it? “You're partners. They're not going to want some alien around while you're, like… going on dates and all that.”
“Does not mean no time for Grace.” Rocky’s starting to sound frustrated. Part of me feels bad, but the rest is just as frustrated. “Why think this, question? On Earth, just abandon friends when have mate, question?”
It's so clearly a rhetorical question, to which the answer is obviously supposed to be no, of course not. I freeze up anyway.
