Summary
When Spock begins eating three times his normal intake and his stomach starts growling audibly on the bridge, Jim Kirk does what Jim Kirk does — he notices, he shows up, and he refuses to let Spock push through it alone. What neither of them knows is that the hunger is only the beginning. That Spock's body has already decided something his mind has been refusing to acknowledge for four years and seven months. A slow burn set during the five year mission, in which Spock's body knows what it wants long before Spock is willing to name it, Jim Kirk has always been paying attention, T'Pring is more understanding than expected, McCoy is a better doctor than anyone deserves, and the hunger is a metaphor and also completely literal.
