Summary
The first time Rae comes home to Rex already in her apartment, he's squinting at the kitchen window and looking put out.
There's no lock on this," he says by way of greeting as she walks in. "Like, not even broken, there's just no lock."
"Hello to you too," she says dryly, setting her groceries on the counter. "Worked out well for you, right? You didn't even have to wait for me to let you in."
"I can pick a lock," Rex says, sounding nettled at the idea he'd need help. "And I was planning to, until I actually got here and found out there wasn't one. That's insane. This is how people get murdered."

Summary
It's 11:30 at night, and the little neighbor brat across from them is sitting on her porch finishing off a sleeve of saltine crackers that he knows in his soul is what she's decided qualifies as dinner.
Eddie gives a wordless snarl of directionless irritation under his breath, and stalks over to the refrigerator.

Summary
Noah liked Davey Jones, really he did.
Davey was a nice kid- admittedly kind of obnoxious at times, and yes, very loud, and sure, reckless with little to no consideration of his surroundings at any given time of day- but nice. He didn’t hold with bullying of any kind. He was the sort of person who still held doors open for old ladies. He was really good at making people laugh and always seemed to have a story ready on the days that Noah was ready to either choke someone to death or curl up under his desk sobbing hysterically.
But it was hard for Noah to remember anything good about Jeremiah David Jones when he was forced to spend an hour after school supervising Davey’s detentions every goddamn day.

Summary
Wayne is aware that Chrissy has started visiting the trailer long before they actually meet in person.
She’s always gone by the time he gets back from the plant, but there will be little details to indicate that she’s been there- lipstick on the rim of a mug, the fact that the mug is actually in the sink as opposed to being left wherever the drinker absentmindedly set it down, a notebook he doesn’t recognize being left on the couch where someone- who, judging by the handwriting, is most definitely not his nephew- was working on something for school.
He doesn’t comment. Eddie hasn’t mentioned it, although he knows the kid can tell that HE knows. If he doesn’t want to talk about it- well, who is Wayne to pry? He may be permanently labeled as ‘kid’ in Wayne’s mind- anyone you half raise always will be- but practically speaking, Eddie’s an adult. He’s allowed a life of his own, and Wayne has enough vague knowledge of that Cunningham girl to feel that Eddie could certainly do worse.
For that matter, so could she.

Summary
The Lord of Hellfire persona is one hundred percent meant to awe and perhaps-slightly-intimidate both his friends and his freshmen. Theoretically, the fact that it means nothing to this kid should be annoying. In practice, however, he can't help finding her anti-authority streak both really funny, and highly relatable. He's been mouthing off to people trying to intimidate him since he was still short enough to get beaten up for it- Erica Sinclair looking him dead in the eye from the nearly-two-foot height difference between them and calling him a long haired freak to his face is almost enough to make him nostalgic. Eleven year old Eddie would've done the same thing.
So Erica keeps coming back because she's the only person bold enough to check him, and this is funny until he is bluntly reminded that her calling out things his other minions wouldn't acknowledge doesn't just apply to D&D.
