This is both his own choice and something he has zero control over. Everyone who once knew his name is now dead, and he himself hasn’t heard it in so long he might as well have forgotten it.
He used to be someone, of course, but even that identity was fragile and full of suffering. He remembers it only vaguely.

Summary
After Aro spares Edward, Alice, and Bella, Carlisle reaches out to thank him. Their conversation unexpectedly rekindles a friendly rapport, and over time, Carlisle and Aro grow closer. The Cullen family watches this budding friendship with cautious curiosity; most are unconcerned, except Edward, who harbours a deep mistrust of the Volturi, and Bella, who still feels uneasy after their encounter. Years later, when Renesmee is born, her curiosity is piqued by Carlisle’s stories about the mysterious and powerful vampires. She insists on meeting them, much to Edward’s dismay.

It wasn’t going to solve the multitude of broken bulbs in Alastor’s rooms – but he didn’t think those warranted a mention.
Especially considering the fact that Angel had made a beeline towards them the moment they’d stepped into the staff parlour, a broad grin on his face and an oddly U-shaped cushion clutched in his upper pair of hands.
