Summary
Lucius Malfoy has spent years desperately searching for a way to remove his Mark. Now, he’s out of time. Salvation - of a kind - comes from the resurgence of an ancient House, under a very familiar name, that could potentially overwrite the Dark Lord’s claim with its own. Of course, swearing his House into vassalage to a fourteen-year-old boy with diametrically opposed values and plenty of reason to dislike his family is far from ideal, but…well, Lucius has always been a practical man. Harry Potter is better than an insane, vengeful Dark Lord, and if that ancient lineage comes back into play? Well, perhaps his family will simply be the first among many; and this, an opportunity to secure a position of high favour...
Harry Potter does not like Lucius Malfoy, and trusts him even less. The last thing he wants is to bind their families together. But Malfoy is a convincing man and his offers and arguments end up sounding so very sensible. He doesn't want Malfoy’s resources and wealth to end up in Voldemort’s hands either, and if Malfoy is truly offering to help him with the things that are important to Harry in return, well…when has anyone else ever really done that before?

Summary
The Bats were not actually invulnerable, no matter how hard they worked to give that impression.
Jim Gordon learned that early, back when Batman was a new phenomenon in Gotham. When he was very much alone, short on allies, hated and feared by most of the police force with nearly as much intensity as the criminals on the streets.
Years later, it seems Red Hood is determined to prove that whatever his dad can do, he can do better. Or worse, where injuries are concerned.
(Part one: Gordon helps an injured first-year Batman. Part two: Gordon intervenes when an injured Red Hood is caught in a bad situation. Part of that intervention involves calling his dad.)
