“I know we’re fine,” Michelle points out, “it’s not a question of being fine. It’s just…”
“Awkward?” Gwen finishes for her. “Of course it is. Everything is awkward when you love people.”
“So, what do you suggest we do about it?” Flash asks, leaning forward on his elbows to look her in the eye across the table. They just have to look it in the eye. They just have to be blunt about it.
“Well, Thompson,” she smiles, not a beaming grin but not entirely melancholy in nature either, just somewhere caught in the middle. “I suggest we all just accept that we aren’t always going to be to each other what we are right now.”
