Yamada tries and is present, but the children do not want a father-son/daughter relationship with him, so he lets them be, continues to help and be present, but begins to create distance when he realizes that he is hurting himself more by trying. In the end, he manages to create a father-son relationship.

Great. Wonderful. Just what this damn group needed. A traumatized child instead of a healer.
Shigaraki pinched the bridge of his nose.
“So,” he muttered in a low, irritated voice, “of all the people in that building, you decided to bring a child.”
Dabi shrugged, as if the explanation were obvious.
“He's the healer,” he said simply.
Shigaraki blinked.
“He's what?”

“What's his name, and can he even walk?” Shigaraki asked Dabi. “Are you sure his quirk even works, or did you base your assessment entirely on the comments of those NPCs?”
"My name is Izuku, and I can walk normally, except I just had my ankles broken as punishment. According to the caretakers, I tried to escape, and then use my quirk without their full authorization, so the punishment was the shock collar, breaking his ankles, and taking away his blanket," the boy began to explain everything he had done, which made both Shigaraki and Dabi stand still, both looking at the boy in surprise.
“Shit,” Dabi muttered under his breath, but loud enough for Shigaraki to hear.

I was reading about this, but well, they always left the plot halfway through, so... I had to create one where at least the darn oiran arc gets finished!
I don't know if I'll continue, it depends on whether I manage to free up some time!
