Summary

Summary
Jiang Cheng dies protecting Jin Ling on a night hunt and wakes up fifteen years old at Lotus Pier, two years before it burns. He has his memories, his grief, and a short list of things he intends to change this time: keep Lotus Pier standing, keep his family alive, keep his golden core, and keep Wei Wuxian out of the Burial Mounds.

Jiang Cheng blinks, incredulous at the liberties that the drunk Lan is taking.
“Shh…Shufu says one must be patient. You wouldn’t want to go against Shufu, would you?”
Lan Xichen’s eyes are wide and full of worry as he looks at Jiang Cheng, as if Jiang Cheng defying anything Shufu says will be the worst thing to happen. As if any of the Lan rules apply to Jiang Cheng at Yunmeng Jiang.

“Since when do children and non-cultivators deserve to be punished for crimes they did not commit?” she asks calmly, back straight as she looks around the room. “Are we not supposed to protect those who cannot protect themselves?” She can see her last question landing harshly in the room. Some flinch, like Jin Zixuan, and even Lan Xichen.
“They are Wens! We cannot risk that—”
“Risk what?” A-Xian says from behind her, his voice tight with barely concealed rage. “They aren’t capable of hurting anyone.”
“Are you implying that your cultivators will lose in a fight against children and non-cultivators, Jin-zongzhu?” A-Cheng chimes in next, and she wishes she could turn around and smile at both of her brothers but now is not the time.
