“I have something too.”
Shouto’s voice cut in just as Izuku was about to suggest heading back downstairs.
He froze instead, brows furrowing. “What?”
“For my birthday.”
That’s...what he thought he meant. But... “Shouto, it’s your birthday, why would you—” He stopped himself, scratching at the back of his head with a confused noise. “What do you mean you have something too?”
Shouto shrugged casually, as he lifted the card at last and tucked it into the front pocket of his jacket. The same place Izuku had carried it, but now it rested close to his own heart.
“It’s a birthday gift for myself,” he explained then, and after a beat, with a glance that made Izuku’s pulse jump, he added, “Provided that it works out in my favor.”
