Summary
Mike was fourteen when the pain in his knees first started.
It began as a sharp, almost electric burn behind his kneecaps whenever he climbed the rickety spiral staircases of the Chapel, a hot line of discomfort that flared with each step. At first, it was easy to brush off — the sort of sting that faded quickly once he sat down, gone as suddenly as it arrived.
At first.
But over time, without Mike being able to pinpoint when, exactly, it stopped fading. The pain was there on the stairs, but then it followed him when he ran. Then, when he walked too fast. Then, when he lay down at night, and a deep, leaden ache pooled in his joints and refused to let go. It became the kind of pain that hung around like bad weather, quiet in the background until it chose to break into a storm.

Summary
Mike had promised himself they wouldn’t do this again. And yet, they were the last two at the office again and it was like he wasn’t in control of his traitorous legs when he slipped into Harvey’s still dimly lit office. His traitorous mind didn’t care about the consequences. And evidently, Harvey’s didn’t either. Mike hadn’t even said anything, just given him those desperate—whorish—fuck me eyes that he knew would melt the older man just enough to abandon reason.
Or, is it really hate-fucking if they're both pining hard enough?
