It felt like he could barely breathe, eating breakfast and lunch rushing from one place to another.
And yet, there was love. He saw it, in small moments there was hope, too. Children playing tag, zigzagging between the tents, slipping in the mud and shrieking with joy. Neighbours hugging each other, finding each other. A cat that was rescued that an old grandpa lovingly wrapped in his blanket.
Human endurance.
Hope.
He’d never felt so full of His love.
He’d never felt so abandoned by Him.
It was finally sunny, patches of sunlight breaking through the endless clouds, warming Thomas to his bones.
It was comforting, yet a jarring contrast to the misery that surrounded him in the aftermath of the storm.

A few months into Innocent's papacy, an incident arises where not enough beds are provided for the Pope's traveling companions. Rather than force Thomas to sleep on a couch or go to a hotel, Vincent insists they share the large bed provided to them.
What they don't expect, however, is to find out how touch-starved they both are and how wonderful it feels to fall asleep in each other's arms.
