Summary
He’s standing across from Ilya in his kitchen. Their feet are almost touching, Ilya’s in black socks that Shane also has multiple pairs of, Shane’s in his favourite soft striped ones. The rain is getting louder outside, moving from a drizzle to a downpour. And Ilya is looking at him like he loves him.

Their evolving emotional intimacy, Shane knowing how to comfort Ilya, the gentle banter. There’s almost a peacefulness to this mood that I really like

Summary
Stick to your guns, Ilya thinks. Sex. With Hollander. That’s simple. Straightforward.
Except nothing about this night has been straightforward. The more time he spends with Hollander, the more he wants him - and not just the sex. He wants it all: the reading glasses, earnest ramblings, moral compulsions. The sweetness Hollander tries to hide. The way he holds back from almost everyone, even from himself, but never from Ilya.
***
or: After Vegas, Ilya knows he should end it with Hollander. He likes trouble, yes. Doesn’t mean he likes feeling scraped raw by wanting impossible things. Then they are marooned together at an airport for a very long, very strange night during which Ilya begins to suspect – shakily, reluctantly – that they might be… something.NOW COMPLETE!

What if they let themselves be honest after Vegas? Amazing dialogue and internal monologues. They’re already so deeply in love here and so willing to be vulnerable. My kryptonite.

Summary
Ilya pulls back just enough to press their foreheads together, knocking their noses in a lazy nuzzle. He doesn’t say anything, but his cheeks are burnt red in the middle (last bits) of the night, and Shane wants to taste the colour of his blush. He wants the heat in his mouth of how crazy he makes Ilya, swallow it down to live with his own crazy while he hopes the dock breaks off from the land and they drift off into sea and just get to be this forever and ever.
“No?” Shane whispers, “did I get it wrong? You are not my baby?” He asks then because he can’t help but tease, because he wants to hear Ilya ask for what he wants, he wants to give Ilya anything he can. He wants to give Ilya this. He wants it to be theirs, baby, to say it without it hurting as much as it hums.

Second summer at the cottage. Their intimacy in this is everything I want for them, how free they feel with each other, and how passionate. And all the sex outside they deserve

Bookmarker's Notes
Lots of beautiful descriptions of the awe that Shane feels for that he gets to have Ilya (“his guard dog, his best friend…”). The depiction of the rest of their summer at the cottage is incredibly satisfying and true to how I see them

Summary
Should he grieve Boston? Probably. Loyalty was important, thank you very much, Yuna Hollander — but perhaps that wasn’t what this situation was. Boston felt like a stopping point for Ilya. Neutral ground, his saving grace, fresh off the plane from Moscow, finally separated from his family by an ocean they couldn’t afford to cross, not without his help. He was grateful to the city, to the Raiders and their fans, truly, deeply, but he owed them nothing.
He owed Shane Hollander everything and more.
(Or, Ilya at the cottage, and his final year in Boston.)
