The air out there was horrible on a good day, terribly thick in a way that sat heavy in your lungs no matter how much you cough it up. They’d already gone through most of the clean oxygen tanks hours ago, forcing everyone to start rationing what little they had left while occasionally breathing in the bad air just to preserve the rest.
Nobody was taking it well.
Rudo had long since stopped talking as much, curled up near the side of the vehicle with his mask pressed tightly against his face. Amo looked pale. Zanka was visibly irritated by everything, which honestly wasn’t unusual, but now it had the added edge of somebody running on almost no sleep.
Even Enjin’s own thoughts were starting to feel sluggish.
So maybe that was why he almost didn’t question it at first when he spotted someone familiar standing just outside the vehicle.

“You’re…” Gris’ words trail off, and he glances at him before shaking his head.
“I’m what?” Enjin mutters, letting his fingers dance down Gris’ spine. The supporter shivers, leaning into his touch before he locks eyes with him again, tightening the hold on his waist. His other hand comes up to trace the tattoos that adorned Enjin's skin, the man's hand warm against his neck.
“You’re mine.” Enjin doesn’t know if it was the way Gris’ voice dropped, or maybe the grip he has on him, or even the mark on his neck still damp with spit, but chills break out across his skin as his words. Not the kind that came from just the right touch or dirty words. It was the kind that was followed up by a hole opening up in his stomach, or the way your stomach lurches while falling.
He feels sick, like he’s going to vomit if he doesn’t get off this bed, or get away from Gris.
OR
You can bury memories, but all it takes is the right words to dig them up again.

Summary
Getting Enjin to open up about his past was like getting an alley dog to unlock its jaw for the purpose of surrendering a scrap of food: wholly impossible, with the strong probability of getting mauled for your troubles.
Gris has been able to chip away bits and pieces over the years, stories of an orphaned kid juggling three jobs at a time, rescued from something horrid by a stranger. Enjin refused to give up much else, leading the detective work on Gris. So he put together the puzzle pieces on his own, rough guesses that made his stomach nauseous and his mind hoping he wasn't right.
And now they were teetering on that edge. Where his suspicions were about to be confirmed. His stomach lurched, blinking away the wetness in his eyes.
Taking a deep breath, Gris prepares himself to fall.

She might not be in love with him anymore but something is still there—and it will always be there. The fact that he could so easily offer her this, as if it was something without consequence, like she hadn’t spent years untangling herself from the idea of him—
“You deserve to have a lovely night,” Umemiya says quietly, gaze almost imploring with how hard he is staring her down over the cocktail still frozen by her mouth. “So, if you want, the offer is on the table.”
A friend in need is a friend indeed, even if it takes five years.

“Over him?” he snaps, and Gris watches him, unfazed by his attitude. Perhaps having this conversation right now was a poor decision.

''Well...'' whispered Stelle, not quite sure ''and I suppose the IPC?''
''I'd rule them out. I wouldn't want to involve Phainon with those people.'' snapped Dan Heng, the other members of the astral express nodding in agreement.
But they have no other choice if they want to save Phainon, as it is Aventurine who finds the young version of the Deliverer after rescuing him from a supposed slave market in Sigonia.
