After the events of Outward Passed Beyond, Torse and Maxwell meet after six months apart. But it's not what either of them were hoping for.
___Torse knows his escapement gives away his delight at seeing Maxwell, but he can’t be bother to care. He’s sure he looks ridiculous, smiling and venting steam, but seeing Maxwell’s face again after months is so relieving.
“Maxwell. You’re here!” Torse says.
“There you are… Welcome back, Torse.” Maxwell says so softly, just for him.
A trickle of blood runs from the corner of his mouth down his scruffy chin.
Torse’s heart trips and clicks against something lodged in his chest.

Not that he minds—but he’s terminally in love with both Spock and Bones, which might make things awkward. Still, Sevrik, the child they rescued, is in need of temporary guardians; surely Jim can put his feelings aside and take care of the kid with his very platonic best friends, right?
No, there should be no problem whatsoever, trauma goes away on its own if you just ignore it hard enough, and clever Orion pirates are definitely not an issue… right?

Luckily for him, there will always be those willing to stand up against cruelty, no matter who it targets.

There are things that Malfoys simply don't do. They don't cry, or show any emotion unless entirely unavoidable. They don't back down. And they certainly don't admit that maybe, just maybe, they might be wrong about a few things.
