Penelope's frown deepened, “I- That's totally unnecessary, Colin.”
He was puzzled, didn't she want to marry? “Why not? You could meet someone and-”
“There's really no need to go to all this trouble,” she said with a tone of finality.
“But-”
“I have a lover, Colin!” she blurted.

“Colin!” Penelope shouts, her face lighting up with a smile that had to be a million or two watts, rivaling the brightness of the sun.
“Pen,” he says, feeling some kind of weight drop from his shoulders, replaced by her when she jumps on him. Her arms wind around his neck and instinctively, he catches her, one hand on the back of her thigh and the other pressed against her lower back.
“Fuck, I missed you,” she breathes.
It’s exactly the homecoming he’d wished for. His heart takes off in his chest. She smells like vanilla and lavender, and her whole body is warm and wrapped around him, and he wonders if maybe they could stay like this for the rest of their lives, because God, he’s missed her, too.
With his face buried in her neck, Colin murmurs, “Yeah, me, too.” Neither of them really let go, and he doesn’t want to read into it that much because—he doesn’t even know. Because he’s scared, maybe. Probably. Because he doesn't understand it and doesn’t want to. Because for all his exploration of caves and canyons, he isn’t sure he’s ready for whatever he’d find the second he reads the text of their friendship and discovers something hidden between the lines.

Penelope frowns, for a moment she wonders if her mum will tell Prudence to stop, that being mean also isn’t ladylike, but she doesn’t do that, she just ignores it. “Well, you’re a little too young to be getting married right now, that will have to wait until you’re a bit older, but as for who you’re going to marry… I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.”
Two days after the wedding, Penelope knocks a boy off his bike by accident with her yellow hat. He laughs with her about it instead of yelling at like she’d assumed he would, and the moment she hears his laugh she knows that she’s met the love of her life, and the minute she opens the door she tells her mum that she knows exactly who she’s going to marry one day.
She’s going to marry Colin Bridgerton, the flowers said so.
OR
At nearly every single wedding she goes to, Penelope catches the bouquet. These are the various times it happens, and a couple of times when it doesn't.

Colin rolls her sensitive nub lazily between his fingers for a few moments, checking to see how wet she is before she nods and he pushes back, fishing his wallet out of his back pocket, producing a condom. He’s gotten really good at refreshing his stash each time they used one, especially after one horrifying instance where he’d forgotten, and they’d had to resort to other tactics to satisfy them, lamenting the missed opportunity for him to fill her properly.
