He reached out, his gloved fingers tracing the line of her jaw, a slow, deliberate touch that sent a tremor through her. She didn't pull away. Her eyes fluttered shut for a barest second.

"I want you, Mon," he said, his voice dropping to a possessive whisper. "And what I want, I eventually have. The only question left is whether you will come to me willingly, or if I will have to burn down everything you pretend to care about until I am the only thing you have left."

It wasn't a threat. It was a statement of fact. A promise.

Mon opened her eyes, and the fear was still there, but now it was mingled with a reckless, defiant heat. "And if I said I might be willing?" she breathed, the words tasting like treason on her tongue.

Or, what starts as a distraction for Krennic and an indulgence for Mon, blooms into a full-blown affair.

    Summary

For most of her life, Mon Mothma has tirelessly opposed Palpatine's power. She's been the one to rally support for the Rebellion, the one who knows just what to say to make people see the wisdom in her ideal Republic. Year after year, setback after setback, she works in the name of democracy to make lives better across the galaxy.

She met Orson Krennic when they were both students. Her relationship with him is one of the only selfish things she's ever done. It's gotten increasingly dangerous over the years, but she just can't help herself.

    Summary

No sitting Chancellor in the history of the Republic had ever been indicted for murdering a spouse. Mon Mothma, ever the overachiever, had managed to break both the highest glass ceiling in the land and her husband’s skull within a few short years - the latter, allegedly, with an antique Hanna star plate she had once given him for their anniversary.
The HoloPress had already dubbed it the Death Star trial, and tomorrow there he would be, at the red hot center of it. And maybe, just maybe, to make his revenge perfect, he would deliberately lose this one. But so subtly that even Justice Yoda would shake his head and say that no one, really, could have won this case. Not even Orson Callan Krennic.

Their signature brand of destruction always stays behind closed doors, both value the optics too much to stoop to something as vulgar as shouting in public. Make no mistake, their endless verbal sparring matches and jabs are infamous, Mon has even subpoenaed her dear husband to testify before the Senate on more than one occasion.
But shattered glass, hurled datapads, and doors slammed shut? Those are reserved for the relative privacy of the Chandrilan Embassy, or his apartment at 500 Republica, a not-so-secret bolthole the bastard has kept for years, while she’s forced to live under the microscope. She’s set foot in it only once, and has absolutely no interest in knowing which of his latest conquests enjoys the view now.

    Summary

Strangely, it's not Tay Kolma who she seeks out for comfort in the aftermath of Leida's wedding nor is it Perrin she clings to as emotions overwhelm her once they return to Coruscant following the celebrations. Perrin would be the obvious choice, he's going through it with her after all, has chafed against the knots of tradition in the same way she has, only to watch as their daughter chose it. And it would be so easy to fall into drunken oblivion with him, she'd done it the night of the wedding, after all. But that's not the oblivion she seeks, not now they're back in their sterile prison on Coruscant, Leida absent and the embassy quiet. Tonight, she wants something to take away the pain, the guilt, the realisation that she's possibly lost her daughter forever, to convince her that it's worth it.

And that's how she ends up at Orson Krennic's door.
