Summary
Oddly specific AUs serve the double purpose of immersion into an area of experience perhaps previously unfamiliar to the reader and that of marvelling at the fact you can place a character in any context and figure out how they'd dance around.
The purpose of this study is to expand the scope of dirkjake by a slight but non negligible margin with one such specific AU, as well as a few rare friendship matchups of interest to the author.

Summary
Dr. Vincent Whittman is a marine biologist who should be writing a grant proposal—but instead, he’s binge-listening to “Southern Strange”, a podcast by the ridiculously charming Alastor Hartfelt.
One episode turns into twenty, and suddenly Vincent is convinced he’s studying podcasters instead of bull sharks…and also possibly falling in love.Bookmarked by LavenderGhost

Bookmarker's Notes
Who knew radiostatic could be wholesome too? This is really, really lovely. Vincent is a marine biologist and Alastor a podcast host.
I think it's remarkable how far away they are from their context in the source material while being still believably themselves to some degree. It's like. what if their personalities, interests, connection to the world manifested differently in another context. Why am I thinking of Homestuck and the ultimate self again. Anyway. This was cute. -

Summary
“Will you remember this when we stop?” Vox asks frantically.
Alastor’s eyebrows furrow, just for a second. “Do you want me to?”
“No!” Vox practically shouts, flailing his hands in front of himself, “Fuck, no, forget this. Don’t remember anything.”
“Okay,” Alastor says simply.
Vox blinks at him. He could… There are things he knows he’ll never hear out of Alastor’s mouth. Simple endearments, reassurances… Things no one has ever said to him.
Things Alastor would never say to him. Not of his own free will. It scares him to recognize what he’d give to hear them.
It’s pathetic, he knows, to use hypnosis to be told that he’s something worth cherishing. To have to use it, because he knows he’ll never hear it otherwise, and he can’t fucking stand it.
To want it all bad enough to do it anyway.
~~~~~~
In which Vox uses his newfound hypnosis ability to make a fucking mess.
Alastor pretends to be hypnotized to allow himself to say sweet things to Vox.
What a goddamn concept. -
Summary
Alastor has grown a soft spot for a certain TV-headed demon. Whether he is willing to admit it or not, he is catching feelings for his fellow Overlord. Is he planning on acting on these emotions? Of course not! That would be the healthy thing to do, and everyone knows that Alastor is allergic to proper communication!
Instead, he keeps the itsy-bitsy, tiny crush on the down low. Until that faithful night at the bar, when his entire perception of who Vox is shatters into a million little pieces.
Friendship turns to rivalry in the blink of an eye, and 70 years later, Alastor and Vox are still at each other's throats. But in the aftermath of Vox's failed takeover of Heaven, Alastor is left to reflect on whether or not Vox was truly the one who ruined it all.
Summary
"Of all the places," Alastor mutters through gritted teeth.
He is not sentimental. He has never been. Nostalgia is a weakness reserved for lesser minds, for those who believe the past holds them rather than the other way around.
Yet, his smile tightens.
Annoyance flares honed and immediate, curling hot in his chest. Vox's face rises uninvited in his mind. Grinning screen, static laughter, hands too careful, attention too constant. The memory of wires and strings follows close behind, of being maneuvered, shocked and jerked around, in a way he hadn't agreed on.
Infuriating.
And it's outrageously uncomfortable too, the sudden awareness of something old stirring where it should have stayed buried.
Or: Alastor is free, Vox is angry, humiliated, and somehow still breathing. They are, apparently, done with each other for good, but a bar, a piano, and far too much history stand in the way. The past, unfortunately, still has excellent timing.
Platonic ideal radiostatic fanfic to me. Sparks duo memory + post season 2 confrontation
It’s just so well written, the characterization is top-notch and it’s canon-compliant. -
Summary
Hell is other people. Purgatory is being a twenty something weatherman with the memories of a being a media overlord who had the entirety of Hell wrapped around his finger.
Sent back to his mortal life with a chance to "do it right this time", Vox has a problem. The Angels have installed a patch in his soul: the Pacifist Protocol. If he tries to kill a rival, poison a boss, or throw a punch, he is paralyzed by blinding agony.
He cannot claw his way to the top if he can't use his claws. He needs a loophole.
Generational fic I have no words
Vox gets sent back to Earth for a shot at redemption but his priorities lie elsewhere.
He lies and manipulates to get what he wants, he is obsessed with Alastor once he learns he is there too, his living situation is dreadful and makes me want to clean my apartment, he is both brilliant but sociopathically volatile, they wage psychological warfare on one another. I love him and this fic so much.
It feels like a kind of purgatory for Vox, and he is always failing the test. It’s so amusing to see Alastor’s perspective too, his view usually shows Vox’s to have painfully and hilariously miscalculated.
