He took great pleasure in being right. Time and again, humanity had proved him right. It was beyond redemption.But hope began to rear its unbidden head when he saw what Player 456 could do. The more he was surrounded by humanity at its worst, the more he managed to turn things around—still holding onto his blind faith in people despite his own flaws and moments of weakness.
He dared to let himself dream that 456 would be able do what he himself could not—and never would.
