    No, Tony isn’t pleased about the fact that Loki is now a part of the Avengers. He can’t really forgive, he definitely can’t trust, but team is team so he does his best to deal with it. When a magical mishap turns Loki into a dragon – of all things! – it's for some reason still Tony he seeks out for help and protection. So now Tony is stuck with a clingy and demanding dragon for company, until things can hopefully be set right.

    The rest of the Avengers are not amused, but getting to know Loki in this new skin is letting Tony see the team trickster in a different light. Maybe he’s really not all bad?

    "I heard the monster was some kind of frog that cries a lot. Someone told me he'd fed it."
    "Fed it?"
    "Yes, he said the Ringbearer brought it back with him, and now it's staying in a guest house and it eats raw meat, and it stays in the dark all the time and screams if you open a window to let in the sunlight, and if you bring it water to splash in it'll tell you a riddle. I am certain he invented all of it. He thinks he's quite special now he's an errand boy in the palace. But, as we were telling absurd tales..."
    Gollum stepped out into the street behind them. "There was no monster," he said shrilly, "no! No, no- don't talk about things you know nothing about- it is silly! Foolish!"
    "I'm sorry?" one of the teens said, turning to blink at him, and another said: "Who are you?"
    Gollum had no answer. How could he answer? What would he say? He squirmed, and said gollum in his throat, and turned on his heel to scurry away.
    ---
    There was a third hobbit on Mt. Doom that day. But no one likes to talk about that, now do they, precious?

    (AU. Gollum made a different choice at Cirith Ungol. And, awkwardly enough, he's not dead, somehow, so, uh, now what?)

    Loki almost looks shocked for a moment, but quickly hides the expression behind a mask. He attempts another step towards Heimdall but stumbles, falling on one knee. His hand is clamped over the massive wound in his chest. Blood drips onto the ashen sand.

     

    “So that’s it then?” Loki rasps through bloodless lips. “You’re here to finish it? Finish me off?”

    Odin banishes Heimdall from Asgard for committing treason against the throne one too many times, and the Watcher is left bereft of purpose. He thinks to follow Thor into battle against Malekith - but then his eyes catch on an odd sight on the ruined world of Svartalfheim. Loki, alive but gravely wounded and alone.

    Heimdall saves Loki's life after he's stabbed by the Kursed and they have a talk about life, death, and forgiveness.
