Ostensibly for Sweet and Spicy Hurt/Comfort Bingo, this has grown legs and a plan to cover a lot of the game, because if you can't get a store-bought compelling romantic arc for the one Black companion, homemade is fine 😒.This is definitely fucked-up/violent; I'm really leaning into the implications of the Durge while trying to stay canon-compliant. Nobody is going to have a good time, at least initially. That being said, the heart of it is genuinely loving and there will be a happy ending. Eventually.

Tav can't stand Astarion, but when he has nightmares during her watch, she can't just ignore it. Although given that he bit her, she'd really like to.
A little sketch of an early-game relationship between a Tav who finds Astarion profoundly annoying, but also can't help but care about him despite herself. Can be read as platonic or the beginnings of romance; I as the author abdicate all responsibility.

Summary
Five years after my initial playthrough, I decided to play this stupid, beautiful, obsession-inducing game again and fell right back in love with FenHawke. This fic is a love letter to the game - mostly canon-compliant and as self-indulgently long, fluffy, angsty, and full of banter as I can make it. I'm also exploring magic, first as something that actually needs to be hidden and second as something that can be used in peace as much as it can be in war. Tags will be added as they become relevant, but this is already 33 (edit: 60 [edit: 159]) pages long in my drafts and I have to get it out into the world.
Hawke didn't want to be a mercenary, let alone a hero, and definitely not a Champion. Fenris, for his part, wanted to escape magic in all its forms. However, life rarely gives one what they want - and for the two of them, that might even be a good thing.

Hawke gingerly stroked Fenris’s green and glowing palm, then looked up at him with wide eyes. “Well, I guess that’s the end of our years in hiding, isn’t it?”
Fenris surreptitiously looked around. Everyone in Haven was staring at them, from the quartermaster to the soldiers and the refugees and the Chantry sisters.
He hunched his shoulders defensively. “So it seems,” he grunted. He didn’t like being stared at, and he never had. But with this blasted magical mark on his hand, it didn’t seem that he had much choice in the matter.
Little did Fenris realize that being stared at was going to be the least of his problems.

IN A NUTSHELL: Fenris is the Inquisitor, and is not very pleased about it. Rynne Hawke, on the other hand, loves making new friends.
