    So now they were heading to see Roz. Bood couldn’t lie and say he hadn’t pulled the A card for this hospital trip mostly to get to come and see Roz. No, not just Roz. Roz and his boyfriend. Roz and the honest-to-god motherfucking boyfriend that none of them had known that he’d had. Roz and the boyfriend he all but definitely moved to Ottawa for. Bood was over the fucking moon. There was no way in hell Rozanov was ever missing another barbecue.

     

    A short sequel of sorts to 'Crashing' in which Bood and Dykstra make a trip to the hospital the day after Shane drives down to be with Ilya after the plane crash. Revelations, tenderness, and humour ensue.

    “Oh shit.”

    Shane looked up, turned his head to where J.J. was sat across the aisle. The blue glow of his phone lit up the too-wide whites of his eyes staring down intently at whatever was on his screen. Shane’s stomach lurched again, anticipating a sudden stop his body hadn’t quite caught up to yet.

    “The Centaurs’ plane crashed in Tampa.”

    There was a moment where everything was still moving, where Shane and the world were still spinning at the same speed they both always had, and then it all came crashing down. Shane wasn’t sure whether it was him that had stopped, or the world around him, but either way, in a matter of seconds the distance between himself and the bus he had only a moment ago been sitting in became staggeringly, dizzyingly vast.

     

    The Centaur's emergency landing plays out a little bit worse, and Shane is left with the harsh reality of the cost of loving Ilya in secret.

    Shane stared down at his hands. He was almost certain that J.J. was there to ask him about Ilya, which would be the perfect opportunity to tell the truth. The thought of that felt like a large weight had settled on his chest, but Shane tried to ignore it. This was the first test of whether he was brave enough to do what Ilya deserved. Coming out to the Centaurs had been terrifying, but even after knowing them for only a couple of hours he’d been confident that they would accept his and Ilya’s relationship.

    Shane had known J.J. for a decade, and he still wasn’t sure what to expect.

    “What is this?” Ilya asked.

    “Ah.” Shane couldn’t quite meet his eyes as a faint blush crept across his cheeks. “Well, I wasn’t sure what the dress code would be for the party, so I laid out some options for us.”

    Ilya’s heart fucking stopped.

    “The… what is this, what is happening?” Ilya asked, wanting to be sure that he understood correctly.

    Shane’s blush intensified as he gave Ilya a small, unsure smile.

    “I don’t know Boodram very well, so I had to guess what the vibe would be. You were… you were in the shower for a long time and I was feeling anxious so I… Sorry, it’s so stupid but I just wanted to… I don’t know, show you I’m in?”

     

    Or, what if Shane didn't leave after their fight on Boxing Day?
