“What do you want, Wilbur?” he asked wearily, for what felt like the hundredth time since that day at the faerie ring.
“What I want,” Wilbur began with a smirk, “is to be your friend.”
“That’s a lie,” Tommy said immediately, not wanting to fall for another one of the fae’s trickery.
“Fae can’t lie, Tommy,” Wilbur interjected. “You of all people should know that. Or maybe you aren’t as smart as I originally took you for.”
“That doesn’t mean I still don’t believe you.”
“What, can a poor fae prince not long for a little mortal friend?” Wilbur asked, voice dripping with false innocence.
“Not this fae prince,” Tommy said, continuing the journey back home. “You don’t want friends. You just trick people and take advantage of them. Manipulating them into giving you want you want and then casting them aside once you’ve had your fun. I’m not falling for anymore of your bullshit. I may have given you my name, but that doesn’t mean I have to play by your stupid rules.”
“Then let me prove it to you."

“I don’t believe you for a second,” the villager said with a scoff. “Reviving the dead? You, a god? That’s the most preposterous thing I’ve heard in all my years.”
“Oh? You don’t believe me?” Dream smiled. “That’s okay, I’m more than willing to give you all a demonstration. Tommy,” he called, gesturing to the blond.
Tommy knew exactly what was going to happen, and he knew that there was no point in resisting, for it’d be over quicker if he gave up and went along with it (and if he struggled he’d really just be making a fool of himself). So he walked over to Dream, quietly, obediently, and stood facing the crowd. At least his death would be quick this time, he thought, as he shut his eyes and felt the cool of metal against his neck. One slash, and the world went dark.
Or: Tommy didn’t originally plan to hit the water when he jumped off the tower in Logsted, so he hit the ground instead. Dream decides that’s as good a time as any to test out the revival book, and upon succeeding, decides he’s a god and it’s high time he gained some followers.
