Summary

Merlin Emrys, 1500 years old, clinical medical examiner, professional hermit, has finally made peace with the fact that Arthur is gone.
He has not made peace with this. He has simply gotten very good at pretending.When Detective Inspector Arthur Pennington walks into his morgue on a Tuesday, looking exactly the same and remembering absolutely nothing, Merlin's carefully constructed equilibrium lasts approximately forty seconds.
There is also a murder. Possibly magic. Definitely a conspiracy. But mostly, this is about a man who has been in love for fifteen centuries trying to hold it together in a pub while Arthur Pendragon sits pressed against his leg and has no idea.
Slow burn. Reincarnation. Heavy on the yearning, light on the sense.

“You didn’t think I’d do this for free, did you?”
Merlin’s head jerked up. His voice came out thin, cracked. “What?”
Arthur pushed off the doorframe and stepped inside, closing the door behind him with deliberate softness. The lock clicked. “I’ve got half the Metropolitan Police looking for your boy. My name on the request means they’ll turn over every bin and every alley from Camden to the river. You think that comes without cost?”
Merlin swallowed. His throat was dry as ash. “What do you want?”
Arthur’s eyes darkened. He took another step closer, boots silent on the rug.
“I want to fuck you.”

Summary
With Priestess Morgause and the powerful warlock Emrys at his side, King Cenred is set on conquering all of Albion. King Arthur is determined to keep Camelot safe from Essetir's power-hungry ruler. Summary
“I’m an activist, Mr. Morgan,” Merlin explains.
“I see that,” Knight Gwaine says.
“I want this place to exist here forever. Forever and ever and ever.”
“You mean until King Arthur climbs out of it?”
“Yes,” Merlin says. “But after that, too, since I’m not like, 100% positive that he’s going to know what a fish ladder is. I figure we’ve got to do some work on that and probably his English before we let him go off into the wild.”
“Right. Obviously, the English. But what happens if someone tries to put another body in the lake while you’re here?”
Merlin doesn’t have an answer to that.
(Three women's bodies are dumped into a lake, and detective Gwaine Morgan is assigned the case. He does not anticipate said lake to be guarded by a local 12 year-old and is even less prepared for what happens when the 12 year-old becomes his murderer's next target.)
