Summary
The "sweater curse" or "curse of the love sweater" is a term used by knitters to describe the belief that if a knitter gives a hand-knit sweater to a significant other, it will lead to the recipient breaking up with the knitter.
When Stiles and Derek were children, a misunderstanding created a rift between Claudia Stilinski, owner of The Hale Yarn Company, and Talia Hale, the best knitter and spinner in the county, leading to the opening of Lucky Ewe, Claudia Stilinski's yarn store.
Stiles and Derek have been lifelong competitors at the Beacon County Fair and after their mothers died, became owners of competing yarn shops. Derek is a budding knitwear designer on the eve of the release of his first book of patterns. Stiles wants him on his popular knitting YouTube show despite the decade-long feud between the Stilinski's and Hales. Stiles has always struggled with his father hating Derek, but he never thought it would culminate in the man arresting Derek for several murders. Stiles and Scott have to take the team to their home now and see if they can not only free Derek, but also catch a killer, and do it before anyone else gets hurt… they can’t do all three.Sheriff is not awesome. Like he was, but now he sucks. Seriously it’s so worth a read but don’t expect to love the sheriff.

When Stiles reads the posts, he’s more confused. They’re older posts, back from his undergrad freshman year, but it was during a supernatural attack that a bunch of people got caught in. Stiles practically ran himself into the ground offering support, advice, and gathering information for Scott and Derek so they could do damage control.
“This tells me nothing,” Stiles says. “Except that you can use Google and know how to take screenshots.”
“I consider it your resume,” Fury tells him.
Stiles freezes, because what.
Fury doesn’t say anything else, doesn’t explain, even after Stiles gestures for more. “What the hell do you mean it’s my resume? If you haven’t realized it, I’m still in college.”
He doesn’t look impressed. “You’ve been in college. You have two degrees, four separate certifications, and you’re on the fast-track for a PhD.”
“I like learning,” Stiles deadpans.
“You like helping, and it just so happens that I have someone you can help.”

God, if only he knew. If only his wolf were here, Stiles would’ve run and told him everything, because this? This was huge. This was something you’d share with the love of your life.
He remembered the phone numbers he didn’t delete. The contact he didn’t text. The same one that remained silent for months. It could have been refreshing and easy to hate him. And Stiles was angry — so angry at his wolf — but hating? No. Derek was invincible from that.
Love weakened Stiles. It turned his bones into sludge, and he could do nothing but sink to the floor and lie there, rotting. Left all alone with such tremendous love, Stiles imploded and curled under its weight. He wasn’t supposed to bear it alone. They weren’t supposed to be apart, and certainly not go for so long without contact. This bond was bigger than him, but… just enough for the two of them.
Come back, he repeated like a mantra in his head. He screamed it once that cursed night and hadn’t been able to stop. Come back.
